Waukesha Catholic Memorial junior Emily Cervantes, the two-time reigning Wisconsin Soccer Coaches Association Player of the Year, suffered a knee injury while playing a club match for Elm Grove SC last weekend in Illinois.

Results of an MRI are expected later in the week, but it "looks like surgery will be necessary," Crusaders coach John Burke wrote in an email.

Cervantes, who has verbally committed to NCAA Division I Tennessee for 2016, has scored 116 goals over her first two prep seasons – the state career record for goals is 224 by Ozaukee's Ashley Bares from 2004 to '07.

Last spring, Cervantes had 66 goals and 20 assists as Catholic Memorial (25-2-1) won the WIAA Division 3 state championship, the Crusaders' third straight title after claiming Division 2 crowns in 2011 and '12.

The forward has been a National Soccer Coaches Association of America Winter/Spring All-American each of the past two seasons and was the Gatorade Wisconsin Player of the Year in 2014.
