Two more state titles – and berths in next summer's U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Championships – were awarded earlier this month as the fall girls divisions of the Wisconsin State Championships wrapped up at Milwaukee's Uihlein Soccer Park.
SC Waukesha Blue claimed the Under-16 title, beating Strike FC Wisconsin Premier 2-0 in the final Oct. 7. Two nights later, Strike FC Wisconsin cruised past FC Green Bay Orange 7-0 in the Under-18 championship of the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association tournament, which is commonly referred to as the State Cup.
Four girls divisions of the state competition are held in the fall to avoid conflicts with the WIAA prep girls season in the spring, when the other Wisconsin State Championships are held. State champions earn spots in the Region II finals – next year's regional is scheduled for June 20 to 24 in Appleton and De Pere.
Kylie Sprecher (Menomonee Falls), who recently made a verbal commitment to play at Marquette starting in the 2017 season, opened the scoring in the Under-16 final about 15 minutes into the second half. Jordyn Plymesser (Kettle Moraine) later doubled the advantage, and Elaina LaMacchia (Mequon Homestead) posted the clean sheet as the SC Waukesha side earned its third consecutive State Cup title.
