More than half of the 64 girls teams playing in the fall Wisconsin State Championships went unbeaten through the opening weekend of group play.

Thirty-six teams got through their first two pool matches of the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association championships without losses, and 23 of those teams won both of their games at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.

The Madison 56ers, North Shore United and SC Waukesha had unbeaten teams in each of the four divisions, Under-15 through Under-18. These girls divisions are annually played in the fall to avoid conflicts with the WIAA season in the spring, when the other State Cup age groups are contested.

Group play concludes next Saturday at Uihlein, with the semifinals the next day. The Under-15 final is Sept. 30 at Uihlein, with the Under-17 championship the same day at UW Milwaukee's Engelmann Stadium. The other finals will be Oct. 2, with the Under-16s at Uihlein and the Under-18s at Engelmann.

State champions earn berths in the 2015 U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Championships, which are June 20 to 24 in Appleton and De Pere.
