Wave open MASL season with six-game road trip, home opener Dec. 6

The Milwaukee Wave will kick off a new era on Nov. 8.

The game against the St. Louis Ambush, one of five straight road games to start the season, will be the Wave's debut in the new Major Arena Soccer League – the sixth league the team has played in during its 31 years.

It also will be the first time since March 30, 1992, that the Wave has played without Keith Tozer as their coach. Giuliano Oliviero, who has played 13 seasons for Milwaukee – the past five seasons as a player-assistant coach – was named the team's new coach by new owner Mike Zimmerman.

After the season-opening road trip, which includes another visit to St. Louis on Nov. 28, the Wave play host to the Ambush in their home opener Dec. 6 at the newly renamed UW-Milwaukee Panther Arena (formerly U.S. Cellular Arena).

That starts a stretch of seven home games in a nine-game span for Milwaukee, interrupted only by games at the Baltimore Blast on Dec. 12 and 13. It includes the Wave's annual New Year's Eve Day match against the Missouri Comets.

Each of the MASL's 35 teams will play a 20-game schedule, 10 at home and 10 away. Milwaukee is in the league's Central Division with the Ambush, Comets, Chicago Mustangs, Tulsa Revolution and Wichita B-52's. However, the Wave will play nine of their games against Eastern Division teams: Detroit Waza Flo (four), Baltimore (three) and the Rochester Lancers and Syracuse Silver Knights (one apiece).
