Sarah Hagen (Appleton North/UW-Milwaukee) is known as a goal scorer, but the striker can play a great pass, too.

Hagen came on as a sub and helped host FC Kansas City seal a 2-0 victory over reigning champion Portland Thorns FC in a National Women's Soccer League semifinal played on a blazing hot Saturday afternoon.

The 24-year-old Hagen, who joined FC Kansas City midway through the season after spending the past few years with Bayern Munich in Germany, played an excellent through ball that Lauren Holiday finished for the second goal in the 87th minute.

No. 2 seed FC Kansas City (13-7-5), which lost to Portland 3-2 after extra time in last year's semifinals, will play at the top-seeded Seattle Reign (17-2-6) in the NWSL final on Sunday in Tukwila, Wash. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. on ESPN2.

All three of the teams' regular-season matches were tight: The Reign won 3-2 at home on May 14 and the sides played 1-1 ties on May 21 and Aug. 2 in Kansas City.

Hagen won't be the only state native at Starfire Stadium on Sunday: Oak Creek's Margaret Domka (Stevens Point/UW-Stevens Point) will be the referee for the final.

  • The Rochester Rhinos' Wisconsin contingent took care of the scoring in Saturday's 2-2 draw against the visiting Harrisburg City Islanders in USL PRO play. Midfielder Tony Walls (Wauwatosa East/UW-Green Bay) opened the scoring in the 8th minute with his first goal in a Rhinos shirt, finding the upper corner of the net on a 25-yard free kick. Harrisburg scored twice in 5 minutes to take a 2-1 halftime lead, but JC Banks (Milwaukee Riverside/UW-Green Bay) converted from the spot after a handball to level the score in the 54th. It was Banks' eighth goal for the season, tied for seventh in the league. Both Walls and Banks earned honorable mention on the USL PRO Team of the Week for Rochester (8-10-8), which is seventh in the 14-team league with two games left – the top eight sides make the playoffs. • Connor Brehm (Racine St. Catherine's) made his professional debut for PSNI FC, coming on as a sub in the team's first-round Steel & Sons Cup match against Ballyclare Comrades on Aug. 16 in Belfast, Northern Ireland. The game ended 1-1 after extra time and PSNI advanced 4-2 on penalties, earning a second-round home match against holders Dundela FC on Saturday. Brehm made his NIFL Championship 1 league debut as a sub in last Saturday's 2-1 away win over Armagh City, then made his first start in Monday's 4-1 loss to visiting Ards FC in a second-round match of the Wasp Solutions League Cup. • Alex Horwath (UW) made three saves in his eighth shutout of the season as Ljungskile SK tied host Hammarby 0-0 in front of 31,074 fans in Stockholm – for comparison, only two other matches in the second-tier league this week drew crowds of more than 4,000. Ljungskile (10-2-9) is in second place in the 16-team league, two points behind GIF Sundsvall (13-6-2) and one ahead of Hammarby (11-5-5) with nine matches remaining. On Twitter: @AlexHorwath
  • Andrew Stadler (Wauwatosa West) played all 120 minutes and converted from the spot as visiting Landskrona BoIS outlasted fourth-division side Torns IF 8-7 on penalty kicks following a 1-1 tie in a second-round match of the 2014-15 Svenska Cupen last Thursday. Landskrona, which plays in the Superettan, is one of 32 teams to advance to the group stage next spring. On Twitter: @AndrewStadler
  • Calum Mallace (Marquette) made his third start of the Major League Soccer season for the Montreal Impact on Saturday, and the third-year midfielder recorded his second assist in a 4-2 loss to the New York Red Bulls in Harrison, N.J. Mallace played a great through ball from his own half to send Dilly Duka in on the left side, and Duka finished against Luis Robles to give the Impact a 1-0 lead in the 37th.
