University of Wisconsin men's assistant coach Ian Sarachan is enjoying a new experience this week, albeit in a very familiar place.

Sarachan is assisting U.S. Under-17 national team coach Richie Williams at a week-long training camp that started Saturday in Carson, Calif.

It's the first national team camp for the 26-year-old Sarachan, who worked in Carson as a coach in the Academy program for Major League Soccer's Los Angeles Galaxy from July 2012 to May 2013 before leaving to join coach John Trask's staff in Madison.

"I've really been trying to just soak this all in," Sarachan told UWBadgers.com. "Being a young coach, it's great to have an experience like this, to work alongside a staff of this caliber."

The Under-17 team, which includes 38 players, is scheduled to play four friendlies during the camp. The national team camp also might give Sarachan some time to visit his father: Dave Sarachan is in his seventh season as an assistant under Galaxy coach Bruce Arena.

Trask also has worked with the U.S. national team program, having served as an assistant for the Under-18 and Under-23 teams.
