FC Wisconsin Nationals had a great weekend, with their three teams going unbeaten in six matches against Vardar and Crew Soccer Academy Wolves in U.S. Soccer Development Academy play at the club's complex in Germantown.

The Nationals' Under-15/16 side won both of their matches, knocking off the two teams that went into the weekend in the top two spots in the Central Conference's Mid-America Division.

Tunji Akindes (Kenosha Bradford) opened the scoring Saturday in the 18th minute and Antonio Amaya (Muskego) added his first goal for FC Wisconsin to make it 2-0 after a half hour. Division-leading Vardar pulled one back before halftime, but Blake Carr (Hartland Arrowhead) scored in the 53rd and 61st to finish off a 4-1 victory.

A day later, CSA Wolves – who were second in the Mid-America – took the lead in the 37th, but Akindes tied it with his team-best ninth goal 5 minutes later and Carr's fifth of the season in the 70th proved to be the game-winner for the Nationals (8-7-3).

UNDER-17/18: University of Wisconsin recruit Nikola Atlija (Franklin) moved into a tie for the team lead with his seventh goal of the season Saturday as FC Wisconsin and Vardar played to a 1-1 draw, the visitors pulling level in the 75th. Bernardo Macias (Milwaukee Tenor) posted the clean sheet Sunday for the Nationals (5-10-3) in a 0-0 draw against CSA Wolves.

UNDER-13/14: The trio of Mark Orlowski (Waukesha), Jonathon Hernandez (Milwaukee) and Trey Goodnetter (Elm Grove) continued to lead the way for the Nationals. Orlowski had the lone goal for FC Wisconsin in Saturday's 1-1 tie against Vardar, converting off a feed from Kamrin Pegues (Milwaukee). Hernandez scored twice and Goodnetter and Orlowski also scored in Sunday's 4-2 victory over CSA Wolves, which avenged a 5-1 loss to the Michigan side in the fall. The trio has accounted for 20 of the 27 goals for the Nationals (4-8-4) this season – Orlowski has eight goals, Hernandez seven and Goodnetter five.

After a weekend off, FC Wisconsin Nationals return to action April 26 against the Indiana Fire in Westfield, Ind.

  • Bavarian SC's Under-13 boys team is spending the week in Madrid, Spain, through the adidas International Training Program, and had quite a memorable opening match Monday. Trailing local side Cobeja by three goals with 12 minutes remaining, Jack Barrett and Jim Mroz scored in a 2-minute span and goalkeeper Thomas Deslongchamps scored the equalizer on a bicycle kick as the Bavarians pulled out a 3-3 tie. The team also has games scheduled Wednesday and Friday.
  • Takumi Ikeda, an 11-year-old from Madison who plays for SC Waukesha, is training with the Bayer Leverkusen Under-12 team in Germany this week.
  • Jack Shaw (Milwaukee Marquette) is in Frisco, Texas, as the Chicago Fire concludes play in the 2013-14 Major League Soccer Generation Adidas Cup. The event includes the Under-17 Academy teams from 17 MLS clubs. Teams were divided into three regions and participated in two qualifying tournaments to determine their placement in this week's finals.  Shaw started each of the Fire's five qualifying matches, held in October in Commerce City, Colo., and in February in Casa Grande, Ariz., and scored in a 1-1 tie against FC Dallas on Oct. 14. The Fire, though, finished fourth out of six teams in the Central Region and are playing in the Domestic Division this week – the top three sides from each group qualified for the 12-team International Division, which also includes Brazil's Flamengo, England's Stoke City and Mexico's Chivas de Guadalajara. Shaw and the Fire opened with a 2-2 tie against the Montreal Impact on Monday, then lost to the Columbus Crew 2-0 Tuesday. They'll face the Portland Timbers on Thursday, Chivas USA on Friday and D.C. United on Sunday.
  • The FC Wisconsin Eclipse spring girls program teams dropped just one of six matches last weekend at the Blue Chip Showcase in Oxford, Ohio. A combined Under-15 and Under-16 team went 1-0-2 in the Under-16 Showcase Red Division, drawing with Tennessee SC 2-2 and Pennsylvania's Beadling Wolfpack 1-1 before a 2-0 victory over Ohio's Kings Hammer Academy Red. Meanwhile, a combined Under-16 and Under-17 team won two of three games in the Under-17 Showcase Blue Division – FCWE blanked Illinois' NSA Premier 3-0 and Canada's Vaughan Azzurri 1-0 sandwiched around a 3-0 loss to Virginia's VSA Heat.
