The WIAA released finalized brackets for this spring's girls soccer tournament series on Monday, and all but two of the 16 sectionals will feature two eight-team groupings.

Schools were allowed to vote on the format for the sectional in which they'll be playing, with the default set-up being one 16-team bracket. To keep that format, at least 60 percent of the teams in a bracket had to vote in favor of it.

However, the only brackets that will follow that set-up are the Division 2 Waunakee sectional and the Division 4 Sectional 4 – the host school for that sectional final, which features Milwaukee-area teams, is still to be determined.

Coaches will conclude seeding meetings for the WIAA's first four-division girls tournament by May 30. Competition kicks off with regional matches June 5 and 7, followed by sectionals June 12 and 14 and the 32nd annual state tournament from June 19 to 21 at Uihlein Soccer Park in Milwaukee.

  • Waukesha Catholic Memorial dropped five spots to No. 14 in the season's second National Soccer Coaches Association of America Top 25 and slipped one place to third in the organization's Region III rankings. Milwaukee DSHA remained eighth in the regional poll.
  • In the Student Sports weekly rankings, Catholic Memorial rose three places to No. 28 and DSHA jumped five spots to 37th in the national Fab 50. The three state teams in the website's Great Lakes Region rankings all moved up: the Crusaders from fifth to fourth, DSHA from seventh to fifth and Waunakee from 10th to seventh.
  • Catholic Memorial, which has outscored opponents 18-0 in winning its first three games of the season, faces Hartland Arrowhead (2-0-0) on Thursday at Waukesha South High School, then heads to South Carolina for four games. The Crusaders' first match on the trip is a marquee matchup against Hilton Head Island, which won the South Carolina High School League Class AAA state title last season and is 12-1-0 this year – the Seahawks are ranked 10th in the NSCAA Region II poll. Catholic Memorial, unbeaten in its past 32 matches (31-0-1), also plays Hilton Head Christian on Monday, Savannah (Ga.) St. Vincent's Academy on Tuesday and Bluffton next Wednesday. St. Vincent's is ranked eighth in Georgia's Class AA by SCORE Atlanta.
  • Kenosha Tremper travels south this weekend for the St. Louis Classic, where the Trojans (4-1-0) will face three Missouri sides: Webster Groves Nerinx Hall on Friday and Wildwood Lafayette and St. Louis Cor Jesu Academy on Saturday. Nerinx Hall is 32nd in the Student Sports Fab 50 and third in the Missouri State High School Soccer Coaches Association Class 3 poll, while Cor Jesu checks in at No. 6 in Class 3.
