Wisconsin Soccer Central

Wisconsin teams had mixed results Saturday as the U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Championships kicked off in Des Moines, Iowa.

State sides went 6-6-4 on the opening day of pool play in seven boys divisions and six girls brackets, with four teams scoring four goals or more in winning.

Some highlights for Wisconsin teams included:

• Simar Perez scored twice as Ace Milwaukee stormed back to double up Ohio Premier Eagles 4-2 in Under-13 boys play despite conceding two goals in the opening 12 minutes. Ace, the first team from the four-year-old club to advance to regionals, scored all of their goals in a 22-minute span.
• Luka Prpa had two goals in 3 minutes in the opening 20 minutes, and Jacob Demerath and Austin Barr also scored twice as North Shore United's Under-15 boys routed Minnesota Thunder Academy White (Minn.)  6-1. United led 5-0 after just 29 minutes.
• SC Waukesha Blue blitzed Futura FC Academy I (Mo.) 5-1 in Under-17 boys action, getting two goals apiece from Mitchell Krismer and Colin Dibb.
• Kylie Sprecher's 48th-minute goal was the difference as SC Waukesha Blue-1 tipped Libertyville FC 1974 (Ill.) 1-0 in Under-14 girls play.
• North Shore United scored three times in the opening 12 minutes, including goals by Angela Mann in consecutive minutes, and went on on to a 7-0 thrashing of Rushmore (S.D.) in Under-18 girls competition. Mann finished with a hat trick, while Madeline Tetzke added two goals.

Group play continues Sunday and Monday, with the semifinals on Tuesday and regional finals Wednesday. Region II champions advance to the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships, which are July 23 to 28 in Overland Park, Kan.
