SC Waukesha teams had a tremendous weekend during pool play at the Wisconsin State Championships, which wrapped up Monday at the USA Youth Soccer Complex in Appleton.

The club saw its teams advance in five of the seven boys divisions being contested and in both girls brackets this spring at the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association competition commonly known as the State Cup – the other four girls divisions were held in the fall to avoid conflicts with the WIAA prep girls season.

Thirty-four teams are headed back to the USA Youth Soccer Complex this weekend, with semifinals in eight divisions set for Saturday and all nine finals on Sunday. There aren't semifinals in the Under-19 boys bracket, as two teams advanced after a four-team, round-robin competition last weekend.

Nineteen teams won all three of their matches in group play, and 12 of those teams face semifinal matches against fellow unbeatens Saturday. That includes all four semifinalists in the Under-15 boys division, which outscored opponents by a combined 55-6 in their 12 pool games.

While those teams that went 3-0-0 over the Memorial Day weekend were assured semifinal spots, five teams advanced via tiebreakers. One of the more interesting cases was at Under-14 boys, where the Madison 56ers Red team was one of three teams in its four-team group to finish 1-0-2.

On the boys side, Glendale's Bavarian SC and the 56ers each have three semifinalists, while FC Green Bay, FC Milwaukee and Racine's United FC have two apiece. SC Waukesha is the only club with more than one team in the semifinals in the girls competition.

Only two teams suffered losses last weekend and still qualified for the semifinals: FC Green Bay Orange in boys Under-18 play, and FC Green Bay-Neenah United in boys Under-19 – they lost to round-robin winner Milwaukee Bavarians 1-0 in their meeting Sunday; the teams meet again Saturday for the title.

State champions will join the four girls winners from the fall in qualifying for the U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Championships, which are June 22 to 26 in Des Moines, Iowa. Regional winners advance to the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships from July 22 to 28 in Overland Park, Kan.
