Nick Jones, who has verbally committed to play for the University of Wisconsin in 2013, and his St. Louis Scott Gallagher Missouri side came up just short in their quest to win a national championship.
Scott Gallagher dropped a 1-0 decision to the New York Red Bulls in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Under-15/16 final Monday night in Houston.
Jones did his part to help the team go unbeaten in pool play and earn a spot in the final. He drew a penalty kick that a teammate converted in a 3-0 victory over PA Classics, scored in a 4-1 win over Michigan's CSA Wolves and assisted on the lone goal as Scott Gallagher slipped past D.C. United 1-0.
The Chicago Fire finished fourth out of the eight Under-15/16 teams at Finals Week, falling to CSA Wolves 6-5 on penalty kicks following a 1-1 tie in the third-place match Monday. Their lone loss of the competition was a 1-0 setback to the Red Bulls in group play.
Louis Bennett (Shorewood), who has committed to play for his father at Marquette in 2013, was an All-Central Conference selection for the Fire this season but missed the end of the season due to injury. The team's coaches all have state connections: Larry Sunderland and John Dolinsky are former Milwaukee Wave coaches, while Stan Anderson (UW-Parkside) is a former Marquette men's assistant.
There were no known state connections on the eight Under-17/18 teams that advanced to Finals Week.
