What a week it's been for the Sun Prairie girls soccer team.
The Cardinals started the week with a 3-2 victory over host Madison Memorial in a Big Eight Conference match Monday night, believed to be Sun Prairie's first win over the Spartans in the program's 23-year history.
After junior Elizabeth Conejo and sophomore Christa Scott scored in an 8-minute span late in the first half, senior Dana Baldwin delivered what proved to be the winning goal on a free kick in the 46th minute and senior goalkeeper Remington Viney finished with nine saves. Then on Thursday night, Sun Prairie came up just short of another history victory.
Conejo – who also scored in Tuesday's 1-1 non-conference draw with Oregon – found the net again in the 20th minute and the slim lead stood up until senior Kristen Gunderson scored with two minutes left to give visiting Middleton a 1-1 tie with Sun Prairie (11-3-2 overall, 3-2-1 Big Eight) in a matchup of Cardinals.
