Andrew Ribeiro (Green Bay Notre Dame) signed with the Harrisburg City Islanders last week, and was part of a little history when he made his professional debut Saturday night.

Ribeiro played the final 12 minutes as the City Islanders topped the Colorado Rapids Reserves 2-1 in Commerce City, Colo., the first win for a USL PRO team over a Major League Soccer Reserve League side in interleague play.

The 22-year-old Ribeiro was named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America All-America first team last fall after a standout senior season at center back for Creighton, and was a fourth-round pick (No. 70) by the New York Red Bulls in the MLS Supplemental Draft in January. He spent time in the Red Bulls' preseason camp, but didn't make the roster.

Harrisburg is off to a 2-0-0 start in USL PRO, which is recognized as a third-division league behind MLS and the North American Soccer League. City Islanders coach Bill Becher told the The Patriot-News that he expects to use the versatile Ribeiro as either a holding midfielder or a center back.

  • James Weber (Hartford) set up the first goal and scored what proved to be the game-winner just before halftime as Gullringens GOIF opened the season with a 2-1 away win over Söderköpings IK in a Division 3 Nordöstra Götaland match Saturday in Sweden. The 20-year-old Weber has 10 goals in 11 games since signing with the fifth-division club last July.
  • Canadian international Tosaint Ricketts (UW-Green Bay) opened his account with new club Sandnes Ulf, scoring twice in a 7-1 rout of Avaldsnes in NM Cupen first-round match Wednesday in Norway. Ricketts is still looking for his first Tippeligaen league goal for Sandnes Ulf, which will face Flekkerøy in the second round of the cup competition April 30.
  • Rosie Malone-Povolny (Marquette) and Keara Thompson (UW-Milwaukee) both played the full 90 minutes as newly promoted Medkila IL thumped Sandviken 4-1 Saturday in their first match back in the Toppserien, Norway's top women's league.
  • Sarah Hagen (Appleton North/UW-Milwaukee) scored her 10th goal in league play as host Bayern Munich blanked VfL Sindelfingen 2-0 in a Frauen-Bundesliga match Sunday in Germany. Hagen ranks seven in the league in goals, and has 16 goals in 22 matches in all competitions this season.
