UWFor the second straight Sunday, the University of Wisconsin men's soccer team earned a milestone victory.

Junior Tomislav Zadro scored the Badgers' opener and set up senior Josh Thiermann (Stoughton) for what proved to be the difference in a 2-1 victory over Michigan in a Big Ten Conference match. It was UW's first victory in six games all-time in Ann Arbor, Mich., and snapped an eight-game winless streak in the series dating to 2006. Video highlights

"It was a great result, in a great stadium," Badgers coach John Trask said in a news release. "We talk about how tough it is to win in the Big Ten, especially away from home. We will take the result and keep moving forward."

Sophomore goalkeeper Max Jentsch (Hartland Arrowhead) made four saves for UW (6-4-2 overall, 2-0-0 Big Ten), which won away from home in conference play for just the second time in the past six seasons.

Zadro put the Badgers ahead in the ninth minute, getting in front of a defender and heading a cross from sophomore midfielder Joey Tennyson (Menomonee Falls) past Wolverines keeper Adam Grinwis for his fourth goal of the season. It marked the 10th consecutive game Zadro has recorded a goal or an assist.

Then in the 42nd minute, Zadro turned provider.

After a series of cutbacks against Michigan defender Eric Leifland on the right side, Zadro played in a low cross with the outside of his left foot that Grinwis got a hand to but couldn't grab or knock away.

After the ball pinged around inside the 6-yard box, Thiermann headed it in for his third of the year and a 2-0 lead. With his seventh assist, Zadro has played a role in 11 of UW's 19 goals on the season.

The Wolverines (3-9-1, 1-2-0) dominated statistically in the second half, outshooting the Badgers 16-1 and 23-6 for the day, but had only Kofi Opare's goal on a deflected header off a corner kick in the 61st to show for it.

Jentsch stopped three shots in the final 45 minutes and freshman center back AJ Cochran cleared another shot off the line as the Badgers followed up last Sunday's 2-0 victory over Indiana. It's the first time UW has won its first two Big Ten matches since 1995 – that's the last time the Badgers won the conference championship, and they went on to win the program's only NCAA title.
