UWThe University of Wisconsin men's soccer team hardly gave Drake a shot at winning Friday night.

The Badgers limited the Bulldogs to just four shots in 90 minutes, and sophomores Nick Janus, Joey Tennyson (Menomonee Falls) and Trevor Wheeler scored in a 3-1 victory at the Illinois-Chicago Classic.

UW (3-3-0) ended a three-game slide with its impressive performance in front of sophomore goalkeeper Max Jentsch (Hartland Arrowhead), who was making his season debut after returning from a back injury. The last time the Badgers gave up fewer shots in a match was Oct. 17, 2004, when DePaul managed only three in a 1-0 loss to visiting UW.

Janus put UW ahead in the 18th minute, taking a pass from junior midfielder Tomislav Zadro on the left side and finishing to the far post from 12 yards out. Zadro, a native of Bosnia and Herzegovina who transferred to UW from Illinois Central, has four assists in his first six matches for the Badgers.

Tennyson doubled the lead in the 44th, making it 2-0 with just 62 seconds left in the half. It was his third goal in four appearances this season, matching his output for his freshman year last fall.

Wheeler gave the Badgers a 3-0 advantage and a season high for goals in the 59th, picking up a rebound and scoring his first career goal from 14 yards out.

Charles Schwartz denied UW its third shutout of the year when he finished off a cross from Thomas Ostrander for Drake (4-2-1) in the 61st, but that was all Jentsch allowed in his first match since the Big Ten Conference tournament semifinals last November. Fellow sophomore Ciro Martinez played every minute between the posts for UW in its first five matches.

Ryan Buda (Stevens Point), a transfer from Evansville, came off the bench and played 24 minutes in his debut for the Badgers. UW closes out the UIC Classic on Sunday against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville (3-2-0), which lost to the host Flames 3-2 in double overtime Friday night.
