The top goal scorer in Wisconsin prep boys soccer history will continue his college career in the state.
James Weber (Hartford) is transferring from Xavier to UW-Green Bay, the school announced Tuesday.
Weber scored three goals in 12 appearances (two starts) for the Musketeers (12-5-4) as a freshman last fall.
He scored a record 173 goals in his high school career – that total ranked 11th all-time in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America record book – and Weber was the No. 2 recruit in the Midwest for the Class of 2011 in the TopDrawerSoccer.com ratings.
"He's got good pace and (is) a player that makes things happen," Phoenix coach Kris Kelderman said in a news release. "His finishing qualities are outstanding."
Weber, who played club soccer for North Shore United, also trained with Swedish teams last summer before the college season. Green Bay also announced a six-member freshman recruiting class featuring two Wisconsin natives. Check out our 2012 men's recruiting update - Marquette announced the addition of James Routledge, a freshman midfielder from Auckland, New Zealand, who enrolled at the start of the current semester and has been training with the Golden Eagles. Routledge played against Major League Soccer Academy teams and college sides last year as part of the Tomorrow's All Whites U.S. tour, a national team program intended to help get the country's top young players college exposure – the TAW director is former Marquette player Nate Winkel. The Golden Eagles will announce the rest of their freshman class in the near future.
