David NickolicDavid Nikolic, a Milwaukee native who spent 18 years in the UW-Milwaukee program, was named the Great Lakes Region women's assistant coach of the year by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.

Nickolic and head coach Michael Moynihan left the Panthers last month to take the same positions at Northwestern.

UWM finished 19-3-0 last fall, setting a program record for wins, earned its 12th consecutive Horizon League title and ninth NCAA tournament appearance and won an NCAA game for the first time.

Nickolic, a UWM graduate, has a U.S. Soccer Federation national "B" license and a vast coaching resume.

He coached the Chicago Red Eleven of the United Soccer Leagues W-League in 2010, had success coaching several levels of men's amateur teams with the Milwaukee Kickers, coached in the girls U.S. Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program on the Region II and state levels and served as an assistant for the Wauwatosa East and Milwaukee Pius high school girls teams.

  • Five Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference women's teams earned NSCAA Ethics Awards, given to teams based on their red and yellow card accumulation over the college season. UW-Oshkosh, UW-Stevens Point and UW-Superior claimed Silver awards for having no red cards and no more than five yellow cards, while UW-Eau Claire and UW-Whitewater were Bronze recipients for having no more than 10 total cards for the season. Across the country, 50 sides won the Silver award, 19 were awarded Bronze and 13 were Gold award-winners for receiving no cards.
  • UW-Oshkosh senior defender Will Chaney (Cedarburg) was named to the third team of the D3Soccer.com men's All-America team. Chaney, who was the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Defender of the Year, anchored a Titans backline that posted 10 shutouts, allowed just 10 goals and ranked ninth in the nation among NCAA Division III teams with a 0.54 goals-against average.
