UW-Milwaukee and Marquette each won conference titles, each advanced to the second round of the NCAA tournament and each had four players named to National Soccer Coaches Association of America women's all-region teams.
The Panthers' trio of senior forward Sarah Hagen (Appleton North), senior midfielder Keara Thompson and junior goalkeeper Jamie Forbes were all first-team selections on the All-Great Lakes Region team, while junior midfielder Helen Steinhauser made the second team.
Hagen, a semifinalist for the Hermann Trophy given to the country's top player, led the nation in goals per game (1.238), points per game (2.90) and game-winning goals (11). She ranked second nationally with 26 goals and 61 points, setting Horizon League records in both categories, and was became the first player to be named conference player of the year three times.
Thompson was 10th in the nation with 12 assists and also scored six goals, while Forbes was the Horizon Goalkeeper of the Year and Co-Defensive Player of the Year and finished the season with a 0.66 goals-against average and 11 shutouts. Steinhauser had four goals and five assists.
Two University of Wisconsin players joined Steinhauser on the second team: senior goalkeeper Michele Dalton and junior defender Lindsey Johnson (Mequon Homestead). Dalton, the Big Ten Conference Goalkeeper of the Year, posted a 0.96 goals-against average and six clean sheets as she played every minute in goal for the Badgers, while Johnson anchored the UW backline and added a goal and four assists.
Meanwhile, Marquette senior defender Kerry McBride (Elm Grove/Milwaukee DSHA) was a first-team choice on the All-Northeast Region team.
The sweeper headed up a defense that yielded just 0.62 goals and 6.5 shots per game for the Golden Eagles, who earned a share of their third consecutive Big East Conference American Division championship, and contributed a goal and two assists.
Marquette senior keeper Natalie Kulla was a second-team pick after recording a 0.63 goals-against average and 11 shutouts to conclude her record-setting career between the posts. Junior defender Ally Miller (Mequon Homestead) and sophomore forward Maegan Kelly, who led the Golden Eagles with 14 goals and 11 assists, landed on the third team.
- Marquette (18-3-0) was ranked 16th and UW-Milwaukee (19-3-0) was 23rd in the final NSCAA Division I women's poll of the season, while UW-Parkside (13-4-2) was among other teams receiving votes in the final Division II poll.
- Forward C. Nortey, who led Marquette with nine goals and 20 points, was named to the second team of the College Soccer News All-Freshman team. Nortey had two game-winning goals and two multi-goal games for the Golden Eagles, including a hat trick in a 3-0 win over Seton Hall on Oct. 22, and was a unanimous selection on the Big East Conference All-Rookie Team.
