A trio of Wisconsin women's teams continue play in the NCAA tournament on Friday.
City rivals Marquette and UW-Milwaukee are both in North Carolina for second-round Division I matches – and they'll hope to be playing in the third round on Sunday. UW-Whitewater, meanwhile, plays in the third round of the Division III tournament Friday, shooting to advance to the national quarterfinals on Saturday. Here's a look at the three state teams still playing:
Division I
Marquette Golden Eagles
Coach: Markus Roeders, 16th season (236-88-33).
Record: 18-3-0 overall, 10-1-0 Big East Conference American Division (tied for first).
NSCAA ranking: National – 12th. Northeast Region – Second.
How they got here: Received an at-large berth in the 64-team field. Defeated Toledo 1-0 in overtime in the first round.
On tap: Second round – vs. No. 13 Penn State (20-4-0), 4 p.m. Friday in Winston-Salem, N.C. Third round – Winner vs. No. 6 Wake Forest (15-3-4) or No. 14 Boston University (19-2-1) , noon Sunday in Winston-Salem, N.C.

The Golden Eagles are 23-0-0 all-time when Kelly records a point and 17-0-0 when she scores a goal. ... Eighteen players have scored for the Golden Eagles and 20 have recorded points. ... Kulla ranks second in NCAA Division I history with 43 career shutouts, one behind the record set by Rutgers' Erin Guthrie (2006 to '09). ... Kulla was the Big East Goalkeeper of the Year and senior defender Kerry McBride was the conference Defensive Player of the Year, both for the second straight season. ... Have advanced to the third round of the NCAA tournament twice, including last season. ... Friday's match will be their first meeting with Penn State, which beat Army 1-0 in the first round. Forward Maya Hayes leads the nation with 27 goals, while fellow sophomore Taylor Schram has 12 goals and 12 assists.
UW-Milwaukee Panthers
Coach: Michael Moynihan, 15th season (193-83-38).
Record: 19-2-0 overall, 8-0-0 Horizon League (first).
NSCAA ranking: National – 15th. Great Lakes Region – First.
How they got here: Earned an automatic berth by winning Horizon tournament, beating Wright State 5-1 in the final. Defeated Illinois State 3-0 in the first round.
On tap: Second round – vs. Ohio State (11-8-2), 4 p.m. Friday in Durham, N.C. Third round – Winner vs. No. 3 Duke (18-3-1) or Georgia (13-6-2), noon Sunday in Durham, N.C.
NCAA tournament history: 1-8-2 in ninth appearance (1997, 2001, '02, '05, '06, '08, '09, '10 and '11).

From the touchline: Win over Illinois State in the first round avenged a regular-season loss – the Redbirds beat them 3-1 in a non-conference match Oct. 23. ... Saturday's victory also set a program record for wins in a season, surpassing the 18 by the 2008 team. ... Hagen has been involved in nearly 60 percent of their goals and is among the national leaders in goals and points. She also is ninth in NCAA Division I history with 92 career goals and 17th with 210 career points. ... Hagen was the Horizon Player of the Year for the third straight season, while Forbes was the Goalkeeper of the Year and Co-Defensive Player of the Year. ... The Panthers are 2-0-0 all-time against second-round foe Ohio State, which claimed one of the final at-large berths but went on the road and thumped Tennessee 3-0 in the first round. UWM beat the Buckeyes 2-1 in the 2010 season opener.
Division III
UW-Whitewater Warhawks
Coach: Greg Henschel, 12th season (126-89-13).
Record: 14-4-3 overall, 6-1-1 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (first).
NSCAA ranking: National – Not ranked. North Region – Third.
How they got here: Received an at-large berth in the 64-team field. Defeated Aurora (Ill.) 2-0 in the first round and advanced past No. 14 Wartburg (Iowa) 6-5 on penalty kicks following a 1-1 tie in the second round.
On tap: Third round – at No. 6 Wheaton (Ill.), 5 p.m. Friday. Quarterfinals – Winner vs. St. Benedict, Minn. (13-6-3) or No. 12 Washington-St. Louis (16-4-0), 5 p.m. Saturday in Wheaton, Ill.
NCAA tournament history: 1-0-1 in first appearance (2011).
Goals for: 52 (2.48 per game). Goals against: 23 (1.10). Shutouts: Five.

Gerber holds nearly every program scoring record, including goals and assists in a season and career, and was the conference player of the year in 2009 and '10 – this year's honors have not been announced. ... Tooren has played in only 11 matches due an early-season injury. ... Twenty of 26 players on their roster are Wisconsin natives. ... Third-round opponent Wheaton is making its 15th NCAA appearance and has won three national titles. The Warhawks and Thunder have played seven common opponents this season, with Whitewater going 6-2-0 against those teams and Wheaton posting a 7-0-1 record.
