College womenCity rivals Marquette and UW-Milwaukee celebrated repeat conference titles during the week, though the Panthers saw their long winning streak halted in surprising fashion.

Meanwhile, UW-Green Bay will have extra motivation when it plays the Panthers in a regular-season finale next Friday.

Get all the highlights in our weekly recap of the Golden Eagles, Panthers and Phoenix.

MarquetteMarquette (17-2-0, 10-1-0 Big East)

Saturday: No. 5 Golden Eagles 2, South Florida 0. Sophomores Taylor Madigan (Waunakee) and Kate Reigle (Brookfield East) scored and senior goalkeeper Natalie Kulla made one save in her 42nd career shutout – two behind the NCAA record – as Marquette cruised past the Bulls (6-8-4, 2-6-3) at Valley Fields to claim a share of its third straight Big East Conference American Division title. Madigan scored off a cross by senior Lindsey Page that deflected off USF defender Nicole McClure and right to her, and she finished from 6 yards out for her seventh goal of the season in the 25th minute. Reigle, meanwhile, scored her fourth of the year on a shot from 14 yards after a cross from fellow sophomore Cara Jacobson (Shorewood) in the 68th. The Golden Eagles outshot the Bulls 25-4, including 14-1 in shots on goal, in their ninth straight win and program-record 17th regular-season victory. Marquette finished tied with West Virginia atop the American Division, but the Mountaineers claimed the top division seed for the Big East tournament thanks to their 3-1 win over the Golden Eagles on Sept. 18.

UW-Green BayUW-Green Bay (3-10-4, 1-4-2 Horizon)

Sunday: Butler 2, Phoenix 0. Julie Burton made five saves at Santaga Stadium as the Bulldogs (8-8-1, 3-4-0) handed Green Bay its fifth straight shutout and 13th of the season. The result means the Phoenix have only an outside shot at qualifying for the Horizon League tournament: Green Bay needs to beat 10th-ranked UW-Milwaukee in Friday's regular-season finale and have Cleveland State lose to Wright State to claim the sixth and final spot. Butler opened the scoring when freshman Stephanie Kaylor's corner kick deflected off the hands of Phoenix senior keeper Maddie Drusch (Appleton Xavier) and into the net in the 19th minute, and doubled the lead on Katie Griswold's penalty kick in the 52nd minute. Drusch finished with six saves on the day.

UW-MilwaukeeUW-Milwaukee (15-2-0, 7-0-0 Horizon)

Thursday: No. 10 Panthers 3, Loyola (Ill.) 0. Sarah Hagen (Appleton North) had a goal and an assist in the opening 8 minutes and fellow senior Keara Thompson added another goal just before halftime as UWM took control early and dropped the Ramblers (4-10-3, 0-4-2) in Chicago to clinch the outright Horizon regular-season championship. "It was nice to score early and take some of the pressure off," said Panthers coach Michael Moynihan, whose team won the conference title – regular season or tournament – for the 12th straight year. "It helped a lot to relax us and getting two was fantastic." Freshman midfielder Kelsey Holbert started the scoring in the sixth minute, taking a pass from Hagen and blasting a shot to the fast post past Loyola freshman keeper Monica Gonyo (Waukesha Catholic Memorial) for her third goal of the season. Hagen quickly doubled the advantage, as she was taken down by Gonyo in the box and converted the ensuing penalty kick for her 19th of the year in the eighth. Thompson made it 3-0 when her low shot got past Gonyo on the post 57 seconds before halftime. The Ramblers ended up with 12-8 shot advantage, but junior keeper Jamie Forbes returned after missing a game due to injury and had a rather uneventful five-save performance for her ninth clean sheet of the season. By winning the regular-season title, the Panthers will play host to the semifinals and final of the Horizon League tournament Nov. 4 and 6.

Sunday: Illinois State 3, No. 10 Panthers 1. Freshman Rachel Tejada broke a tie in the 62nd minute with her 17th goal of the season and senior Jessica Carlson added an 85th-minute penalty kick as the Redbirds (10-5-0) shocked UW-Milwaukee in a non-conference match in Normal, Ill. "We are obviously disappointed," said Moynihan, whose team had a nine-game winning streak snapped. "The team takes it hard (when we lose) and we haven't lost in a long time. It's not a feeling we're used to or that we like, but I thought Illinois State deserved it." UWM, which suffered its only other loss to Marquette 1-0 in double overtime on Sept. 7, fell behind in the seventh minute but equalized two minutes later when sophomore Krissy Dorre got a pass from Holbert, beat a defender and fired a shot into the top of the net for her second goal of the year. After Tejada put the Redbirds ahead, keeper Aryn Newsom parried a shot by Hagen over the crossbar for one of her five saves. Forbes stopped three shots for the Panthers.

Up next: vs. UW-Green Bay, 7 p.m. Friday.
