College menThere was plenty of action for the state's Division I men's soccer teams this week.

Marquette battled yet another ranked opponent in dreadful conditions and lost, but the Golden Eagles got a hat trick from a freshman and continue to lead their division in the Big East Conference.

UW-Green Bay came up with a big win over a state rival, then pulled off an impressive rally to move up the Horizon League standings. UW-Milwaukee, though, saw one frustrating trend continue at the same time one positive one came to an end.

Get all the highlights in our weekly recap of the Golden Eagles, Phoenix and Panthers.

MarquetteMarquette (8-6-2, 6-1-0 Big East)

Wednesday: No. 24 Georgetown 3, Golden Eagles 2. Sophomore Steve Neumann scored twice in four minutes, including a 25-yard strike in the 84th minute to win it, as the Hoyas (9-3-3, 4-2-0) rallied past Marquette in a Big East Conference match on a miserable night at Valley Fields. The match was delayed 20 minutes and moved to the complex's FieldTurf pitch due to consistent rain that combined with 35-degree temperatures and winds that gusted up to 50 mph to make for challenging playing conditions. Georgetown took the lead in the seventh minute, but the Golden Eagles stormed back as they looked to upset a third straight ranked opponent. Freshman forward Kelmend Islami (South Milwaukee) put in the rebound after senior midfielder Calum Mallace's 30-yard drive was parried by Hoyas goalkeeper Tomas Gomez in the 24th, and Mallace put Marquette ahead in the 36th with a blast from 40 yards out on a free kick. But despite an 18-8 advantage in shots, the Golden Eagles dropped their first conference game of the season thanks to Neumann's late goals.

Saturday: Golden Eagles 3, Seton Hall 0. Freshman forward C. Nortey had a hat trick in the opening 27 minutes, all on headers, as Marquette bounced back and increased its lead atop the Big East Blue Division by thumping the Pirates (4-9-2, 0-6-0) in South Orange, N.J. Sophomore defender Paul Dillon played the cross to Nortey for the first goal in the second minute, while his goals in the 14th and 27th minutes were the result of free kicks by Mallace. Nortey leads Marquette with nine goals, while Mallace has a team-best six assists. "In the first 25 minutes, I thought we played really well," Golden Eagles coach Louis Bennett said. "We managed to break them open and score some goals, and obviously, C. Nortey doing what he does best: Getting in the box and making himself difficult to mark." Junior David Check (Mequon Homestead) and freshman Charlie Lyon each made one save in the combined shutout, with Lyon playing the final 15 minutes. Marquette has a four-point lead over top-ranked Connecticut (13-1-2, 4-1-2) in the Big East Blue heading into Wednesday's match between the teams in Storrs, Conn., while Georgetown and Providenceare five points back. The Golden Eagles have clinched a berth in the Big East tournament and are in position to earn a first-round bye – the top two finishers in each division receive byes into the quarterfinals and play host to those matches.

UW-Green BayUW-Green Bay (8-5-1, 3-2-0 Horizon)

Wednesday: Phoenix 2, Wisconsin 0. Match recap

Saturday: Phoenix 2, Cleveland State 1. Senior midfielder Tony Walls (Wauwatosa East) converted a penalty kick in the 85th minute and sophomore midfielder Luke Goodnetter (Brookfield East) scored on a header in the 90th as Green Bay stunned the host Vikings (6-8-1, 3-2-1) in a Horizon League match. The Phoenix fell behind in the third minute and had just one shot in the first 45 minutes, but kept it close, picked it up offensively in the second half and found the two late goals to win their fourth consecutive game. "We had all the momentum in the second half and knew that if we would get one goal, we would get another," said Walls, who scored his team-best fifth goal of the season from the spot following a Cleveland State handball in the box. Goodnetter then got a shot off in the 87th that Vikings keeper Brad Stuver stopped, but he would get one more chance. Green Bay won the ball in the midfield after the goal kick, Cleveland State cleared it out and freshman midfielder AJ Patterson (Menomonee Falls) served in a ball that Goodnetter headed past Stuver to the far post with just 29 seconds left. "We feel we are playing our best soccer of the season right now and we have to keep it going in our final three conference games," said Phoenix coach Kris Kelderman, whose team is fourth in the Horizon – one point behind leaders Valparaiso, Wright State and Cleveland State.

Up next: vs. Detroit, 7 p.m. Wednesday; at Wright State, 7 p.m. Saturday.

UW-MilwaukeeUW-Milwaukee (5-7-2, 2-2-2 Horizon)

Saturday: Valparaiso 2, Panthers 0. The Crusaders (7-5-3, 3-0-1) shut down the Horizon League's top-scoring team, limiting UWM to six shots – all in the first half and just one of them on goal – as they won in Indiana to move into a three-way tie atop the conference standings. Kevin Miller and Charles Barden scored in the 61st and 75th minutes for Valparaiso, while Kyle Zobeck stopped the only shot he faced for his program-record eighth shutout of the season. "They defended very well," said Panthers coach Chris Whalley, whose team is winless in its past five (0-3-2). "We just didn't play very well tonight. We had some chances in the first half and didn't take them. And then in the second half, we really didn't pass the ball well enough at all to get our forwards into the game and really didn't create enough." Sophomore midfielder Riley Weiner (Muskego) had the only shot on target in the 40th minute for Milwaukee, which came in averaging 2.4 goals per game in league play, was shut out for the first time this season. After winning their first two Horizon games of the season, the Panthers are winless in their last four league matches (0-2-2) and are in fifth place – but are just two points out of first.

Up next: vs. Wisconsin, 7 p.m. Wednesday (nc); vs. Loyola (Ill.), 7 p.m. Saturday.
