Marquette (1-2-0)
Friday: UW-Milwaukee Panther Invitational – Golden Eagles 3, Western Michigan 2 (2OT). Junior Andy Huftalin scored his first career goal with 13 seconds left in the second overtime at Engelmann Stadium as Marquette earned its first victory of the season. Huftalin, who also recorded his first assist on freshman C. Nortey's 58th-minute goal, headed in a cross from sophomore midfielder Bryan Ciesiulka for the winner. Ciesiulka also set up the opener by sophomore Adam Lysak (Milton) in the sixth minute for the Golden Eagles, who led 2-0 before Shane Lyons converted penalty kicks in the 64th and 87th minutes to pull the Broncos (0-2-0) even.
Sunday: UW-Milwaukee Panther Invitational – Western Illinois 1, Golden Eagles 0. Daniel Lewis scored on a left-footed volley in the 90th minute as the Leathernecks stunned Marquette at Engelmann. The goal came with 32 seconds left in regulation and six minutes after Western Illinois (1-2-0) was reduced to 10 men as Hilary Esangbedo was red carded for his tackle on Golden Eagles freshman forward Kelmend Islami (South Milwaukee). Marquette was without injured starters Calum Mallace and Michael Alfano, then lost 6-foot-7 freshman central defender Axel Sjoberg to a right foot injury in the 15th minute, prompting coach Louis Bennett to switch from a 4-3-3 to a 3-4-3 formation that included senior midfielder Amilcar Herrera (Milwaukee Riverside) in the backline. The Golden Eagles still managed to get off 20 shots, their best total since 2004, but only put eight on frame as they were shut out. Huftalin, Ciesiulka and sophomore midfielder were named to the all-tournament team.

UW-Green Bay (1-0-1)
Thursday: Phoenix 1, SIU-Edwardsville 0. Tony Walls (Wauwatosa East) converted off a corner kick by fellow senior Stuart Grable (Neenah) in the 74th minute as Green Bay gave coach Kris Kelderman his first career victory, beating the Cougars in steamy Edwardsville, Ill. The match was split into quarters rather than halves because of the heat - it was 104 degrees on the field at kickoff. "I have a lot of fun and fond memories throughout my career and this is just one of them," Kelderman said. "It was a great effort by our guys in fighting the weather and being patient." Junior goalkeeper Ryan Wehking made five saves to blank SIUE, which upset Tulsa in its season opener Aug. 27. It was Wehking's 15th career shutout.
Saturday: Phoenix 1, Bradley 1. Sophomore midfielder Luke Goodnetter (Brookfield East), a transfer from the University of Wisconsin, fired a shot that clipped off the inside of the left post and in for his first collegiate goal in the 45th minute, lifting Green Bay into a tie with the Braves (3-0-1) in Peoria, Ill. Once again, the Phoenix had to deal with weather issues, as the match was delayed 90 minutes due to storms and lightning in the area. Wehking finished with nine saves for Green Bay, which was outshot 24-9 in the draw with Bradley, ranked sixth in the NSCAA Midwest Region poll.
Up next: UNLV Tournament – vs. Cal State Fullerton, 6:30 p.m. Friday; at UNLV, 3 p.m. Sunday.
UW-Milwaukee (2-1-0)
Friday: Panther Invitational – Panthers 2, Western Illinois 0. Freshman Gerardo Saavedra and senior Robert Refai scored in a 9-minute span in the second half and junior John Shakon earned the clean sheet at Engelmann as UW-Milwaukee claimed its first win of the season. Saavedra converted from 12 yards out after picking up a loose ball at the top of the box, netting his first career goal, while Refai ran onto a ball from freshman Laurie Bell and finished in the 84th for his first goal since 2009 – both goal scorers took medical redshirts last fall. Shakon made just one save, but it was a stop on Husref Jupic's breakaway in the 52nd minute with the match still scoreless. "That was massive. It was as good as a goal," said UWM coach Chris Whalley, whose team launched 30 shots, the most for a Panthers side since October 2006.
Sunday: Panther Invitational – Panthers 4, Western Michigan 0. Saavedra and senior Keegan Ziada each had a goal and an assist to power UWM to a rout of the Broncos (0-3-0), giving the Panthers their 22nd title in the event's 37-year history. Refai opened the scoring with his second goal in as many matches in the 32nd minute, Saavedra scored on a free kick in the 43rd, English freshman Richard Johnson recorded his first collegiate goal with a header in the 78th and Ziada – an Australian who played three seasons at NCAA Division II Limestone (S.C.) – finished things off with a breakaway in the 89th with his first Panthers goal. Saavedra was named the tournament MVP, and was joined by Refai, Ziada, Shakon and Johnson on the all-tournament team.
