Two of the country's top college women's soccer players are Wisconsin natives who play in Milwaukee.
UW-Milwaukee forward Sarah Hagen (Appleton North) and Marquette defender Kerry McBride (Elm Grove/Milwaukee DSHA) received more preseason accolades this week, as both were named to the Missouri Athletic Club Hermann Trophy watch list and the Soccer America Preseason All-American team.
The seniors are among 42 players on the Hermann watch list. The field will be reduced to 15 semifinalists in late November, then three finalists will be selected to attend the award ceremony Jan. 6 in St. Louis.
Hagen was a semifinalist for the prestigious award (right) last season when she also was a first-team All-American.
"This is an indicator that people know about her and have been watching her perform at a very high level for a while now," Panthers coach Michael Moynihan said in a news release. "She deserves the recognition and attention. Hopefully, she'll be there at the end of the year, staying healthy and having a successful senior year."
McBride was a third-team All-American and the Big East Conference Defensive Player of the Year last season after anchoring the Golden Eagles' defense from her sweeper position.
Creighton senior forward Ethan Finlay (Marshfield) was one of the 42 players on the Hermann Trophy men's preseason watch list. Finlay was a semifinalist for the award last season, when he had 15 goals and four assists.

Hagen scored twice and assisted on junior midfielder Helen Steinhauser's goal, all in a 2:15 span in the opening 10 minutes, as host UWM thumped Northern Illinois 4-1 in an exhibition match Sunday at Engelmann Stadium. Freshman midfielder Kelsey Holbert set up Hagen's opener in the eighth minute, then Steinhauser and Hagen assisted on goals by the other in a 21-second span in the 10th. Senior Keara Thompson made it 4-0 just before halftime for the Panthers, who outscored opponents 11-3 in winning all three of their exhibition matches. UWM opens the season Friday at Michigan State. It was the lone exhibition of the fall for the Huskies, who are heading into their fourth season under former University of Wisconsin player and assistant Carrie Barker.

The UW women (11-4-5 in 2010) were picked to finish third in the Big Ten Conference in the annual preseason coaches' poll, the same position the Badgers have finished in the league each of the past two seasons. Senior goalkeeper Michele Dalton, senior forward Laurie Nosbusch (Mequon Homestead) and junior midfielder Alev Kelter were tabbed as the players to watch for UW, which returns 10 of 11 starters. Purdue senior defender Brookley Rogers (Brookfield East), who has started the past 34 matches for the Boilermakers, also made the Big Ten players to watch list.

Marquette (16-5-3 last season) is ranked 14th in the women's Soccer America Preseason Top 25.
