Joey ChiappettaJoey Chiappetta, a New Berlin native who played at Waukesha Catholic Memorial High School, is preparing for his sophomore season at Lipscomb by spending time at Centro de Formacion de Futbolistas de Alto Rendimiento – CEFAR – in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

He's agreed to write a journal for Wisconsin Soccer Central about his experiences at the academy, where he's training alongside mainly professional players. Here's the latest from Chiappetta:

Monday, July 18

Morning: Warmed up with upper and lower body gym before playing 2v2, 3v3 and 7v7 possession-style games.

Afternoon: Warmed up with 4v2, 6v2 and 8v2 possession before playing a 2v2 recovery game.

Afternoon: Did some skill work before playing 6v3 possession

Wednesday, July 20

Morning: Warmed up with some skill work before doing four drills. 1st drill – Passing patterns. 2nd – 1v1 and 2v2 recovery games. 3rd – 5v3 possession. 4th – Speed dribbling. We finished with some runs and stretching.

Afternoon: Warmed up and played a little possession before working out at the gym.

Thursday, July 21

Morning: Warmed up before doing five stations of speed and agility. We then had four stations of drills. Drills 1 and 2 – 3v3 recovery. Drill 3 – Passing drills. Drill 4 – 1v1 possession with four players on the outside. We cooled down with some running.

Morning: We warmed up with a juggling game where you call out the number of touches the other person is allowed to take before passing it to you. You may call 1, 2 or 3 but cannot repeat the number that was called for you to take. We then played 1v1 holding the ball from the opponent. We then played 4v4 recovery.

Afternoon: We started with gym work and a little speed and agility work with a box and a nine square latter. We then played a 6v6 tournament.

Saturday, July 23

Played games that were similar to soccer as well as playing rugby to have fun and recover.

Sunday, July 24

Played 8v8+1 to small goals before playing 2v2+1 recovery game.

Monday, July 25

Morning: Warmed up with possession before doing passing drills and 5v3 possession.

Afternoon: Went to a pool to do some rehab exercises.

Tuesday, July 26

Morning: Warmed up with possession and passing drills before playing 6v3 possession. We then cooled down with some running.

Afternoon: Lifted upper body weights and did an ab workout at the gym.

Sorry about the late email. Internet has been down and we had a pretty big storm yesterday.

We did watch the Copa America final between Uruguay and Paraguay on Sunday.  It was funny seeing (Paraguay coach) Gerardo Martino again. He looks a little more intense than when I met him in Nashville. (Editor's note: Chiappetta met Martino when Paraguay played the U.S. in a friendly in March in Nashville, which is where Lipscomb is located).
