U.S. women's national team midfielder-forward Lindsay Tarpley (Madison) recently was forced to give up her job as director of soccer operations for the UCLA women's soccer team, but she's not complaining.
Tarpley could no longer hold the position because her husband, B.J. Snow, was named the Bruins' head coach and the University of California has rules concerning spouses working together.
Snow, 33, was promoted after five seasons as an assistant to replace Jillian Ellis, who left to become the women's youth national team development director for U.S. Soccer.
U.S. Soccer has the story on Tarpley, who is with the national team at the Four Nations Cup in China this week and reportedly has signed with the newly renamed magicTalk SC/Washington Freedom of Women's Professional Soccer.

Former Wartburg (Iowa) coach Sara Johnson was named the coach at Carthage College in Kenosha. Johnson led the Knights to a 14-6-2 record and into the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament last fall in her only year at the helm following a three-year stint as an assistant in the program. She succeeds Susie Foster, who resigned in November after compiling a 68-41-9 mark and two NCAA appearances in six seasons with the Red Hawks. Carthage was 7-9-3 overall and finished last in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin with a 0-6-1 record in 2010. Johnson was a three-time All-CCIW selection during her career at Wheaton (Ill.), was the conference player of the year in 2003 and served as team captain for the Thunder's 2004 NCAA championship team.

Carroll also will have a new coach in the fall. Former Pioneers player Courtney Fryatt, who had been serving as the team's interim coach, stepped down from that role and as an administrative assistant for athletics at the Waukesha school. Fryatt had been an assistant, then took over the squad when Jason Bretzmann resigned Oct. 15 during the season. She led the team to a 7-3-0 record, the the Midwest Conference regular-season championship and a berth in the MWC tournament final.
