College WomenBoth the Marquette and UW-Milwaukee women's soccer teams head into their annual derby match Wednesday night at Valley Fields on the heels of a victory.

The Golden Eagles ended a long scoreless streak with a one-goal win over UC Santa Barbara Sunday, while the Panthers had the same margin of victory in a vastly different match against Michigan State.

Get the highlights in our weekly recap of Marquette, UW-Milwaukee and UW-Green Bay.

Marquette (3-2-1)

MarquetteFriday: No. 14 San Diego 1, Golden Eagles 0 (OT). Brittany Held scored an unlikely goal in the 99th minute as the Toreros (4-0) won the opening match of the Minnesota Gold Classic in Minneapolis. Held shot from 18 yards out near the sideline and the ball went across the front of the goal before hitting the far post and bouncing in past Marquette goalkeeper Natalie Kulla. The Golden Eagles had a whopping 27-7 advantage in shots, but San Diego keeper Courtney Parsons made 12 saves. "Beside winning the game and scoring a goal, we were outstanding tonight. We did everything but score," said Marquette coach Markus Roeders, whose team hit the crossbar with one shot and had another bounce off both posts in its second straight 1-0 OT loss.

Sunday: Golden Eagles 1, UC Santa Barbara 0. Freshman Maegan Kelly got behind Gauchos keeper Makenna Henry, took a pass from sophomore Rachel Brown and scored the lone goal in the 72nd minute to end Marquette's two-game slide. The goal ended a 283-minute, 8-second scorless streak for the Golden Eagles. Kulla stopped four shots for her third shutout of the season and the 25th of her career, while junior Kerry McBride (Milwaukee DSHA) and freshman defender Katie Hishmeh (Brookfield Central) were named to the all-tournament team.

Up next: vs. UW-Milwaukee, 7 p.m. Wednesday; at Brigham Young, 8 p.m. Saturday.

UW-Green Bay (1-1-2)

UW-Green BayFriday: Phoenix 0, Eastern Illinois 0 (2OT). Junior keeper Maddie Drusch (Appleton Xavier) and the UWGB defense continued their strong start to the season, posting their third shutout in four matches. Drusch made two saves, including a diving stop on Elise Farrelly's free kick with less than eight minutes left, and has allowed just one goal in 400 minutes this season. The Phoenix outshot the Panthers 21-8, but their best chance was thwarted when Eastern Illinois keeper Kaylin Lorbert tipped freshman Ahna Logan's long-range shot off the crossbar early in the first overtime. "We've just got to keep creating chances and be more ruthless in front of the goal," said UWGB coach Trevor Warren, whose team has been shut out three times. "We've just got to keep building and the goals will come eventually."

Up next: vs. Northern Iowa, 7 p.m. Friday; vs. South Dakota State, 1 p.m. Sunday.

UW-Milwaukee (2-2-1)

UW-MilwaukeeSunday: Panthers 3, Michigan State 2. Juniors Sarah Hagen (10th), Makenzie Gillaspie (27th) and Keara Thompson (34th) scored first-half goals and UWM held off the Spartans (3-2) at Shorewood High School. Sophomore Helen Steinhauser had a pair of assists, while Hagen's goal was the 50th of her career – seven behind Lisa Krzykowski's school record. Michigan State, which was ranked second in the NSCAA Great Lakes Region poll, scored its goals in the opening seven minutes of the second half. "I'm happy that we held them off," UWM coach Michael Moynihan said. "We could not have gotten off to a better start in the first half."

Up next: at Marquette, 7 p.m. Wednesday; at Wisconsin, 1 p.m.
