The Madison College men's soccer team had a rough opening week to the season, dropping three matches and conceding 21 goals in the process.
The WolfPack allowed four goals in the first half hour Wednesday in an 8-1 loss to Triton College (Ill.), which also was a North Central Community College Conference opener, then lost to the Concordia JV 6-1 on Friday and Prairie State (Ill.) 7-3 on Saturday in non-conference play.
Coming off a challenging 3-13-1 season that included just one win on the field, Madison again has a young roster, with only two sophomores on its 18-man roster. One of the veterans is goalkeeper Eric Liegel (Belleville/Sugar River), who made 28 saves on the week – half of those against the Concordia JV.
Freshman midfielder Piero Alegria (Sun Prairie) scored against Triton (2-0-0), an NJCAA Division III national semifinalist last season. Congolese freshman forward Aristote Mbaya had the WolfPack's goal against the Concordia JV and added another against Prairie State (3-1-0).
Freshman midfielder Jose Sibaja (Verona) and freshman defender Evan Everett (Jefferson) also scored against the Pioneers, while freshman midfielder Ali Aamir – from Monterey, Calif. – had a pair of assists.
Madison continues its homestand with a pair of N4C matches this week, playing host to Milwaukee Area Technical College (0-2-0) on Wednesday and Joliet JC (Ill.) on Friday. Both games kick off at 4 p.m.
