FC Milwaukee's Under-18 girls team will have early wake-up calls at the U.S. Youth Soccer National Championships later this month in Phoenix.
The Nationals will play all three of their round-robin matches at 8 a.m. local time (9 a.m. Central) at the Reach 11 Sports Complex. The early kickoffs are necessary to avoid what likely will be extremely hot afternoon temperatures – the average high for Phoenix in July is 107 degrees.
FC Milwaukee opens the tournament July 27 against Region IV champion Colorado Rush Nike, then faces Florida's Team Boca from Region III on July 28 and Region I champion FC Stars of Massachusetts on July 29.
The top two finishers among the four teams in round-robin play will meet at 7:45 a.m. (8:45 a.m. CT) July 31 for the national championship.
In the Under-19 girls competition, Minnesota's Woodbury Inferno – whose roster includes the University of Wisconsin's Catie Sessions – will play their three pool matches at 8 p.m. (9 p.m. Central).
Inferno plays the Dallas Texans Red from Region III on July 27, Real Colorado National of Region IV on July 28 and New Jersey's PDA Tsunami from Region I on July 29. The final is set for 7:45 a.m. (8:45 a.m. Central) on July 31.
