The Central FC Select Under-15 girls team scored 18 goals in its four matches at the U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Presidents Cup over the weekend in South Bend, Ind., but just missed out on advancing to nationals.
The Stevens Point-area team won all three of its group matches, then lost to KC Fusion Cummings 4-3 in the final Sunday. The Missouri team earned a berth in the National Presidents Cup, which is July 7 to 10 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Central FC Select beat Missouri Elite FC 7-0, Indiana's Tigers 4-3 and Ohio's Metro Coraggio Premier 4-1 to advance to the championship game.
The other Wisconsin team at the regional competition, the Oregon Flame Under-17 girls team, finished 2-1-0. They beat Indiana's USF Real 1-0 and Minnesota's CRM 3-1 sandwiched around a 4-0 loss to Kentucky's Thoroughbreds.
The Presidents Cup provides a regional and national tournament experience for teams that don't compete on a level to contend for state and regional championships.
