Twenty teams enjoyed perfect holiday weekends at the Wisconsin State Championships, winning all three of their group matches at the USA Youth Soccer Complex in Appleton.
Those sides were joined by 12 others in advancing to next Saturday's semifinals at the Fond du Lac Sports Complex, which also will play host to the championship games in nine divisions next Sunday.
FC Milwaukee had the most teams qualify for the semifinals with five, three boys sides and one in each of the two girls divisions that are contested in the spring – the other four girls age groups are played in the fall to avoid conflicts with the WIAA season. The club also has a team in the Under-19 girls final next Sunday.
The Madison 56ers were next with three semifinalists, all on the boys side. Six clubs had two teams advance , including MYSC Rush in both girls divisions, while 12 clubs have one team still in the mix in the tournament better known as the State Cup.
Two age groups saw all four semifinalists finish 3-0-0 in pool play: Under-13 girls and Under-14 boys. Overall, eight of the semifinals will pit teams that had perfect records this weekend against one another.
Of the 32 teams to advance, only one did so after losing a game. Kenosha's KASL United FC Red team went 2-1-0 and were tied with Croatian Eagles Blue and FC Green Bay Orange for the top spot in Bracket C and earned a spot in the semifinals thanks to a superior goal differential.
State champions advance to the U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Championships, which are being jointly hosted by the USA Youth Soccer Complex and Southwest Park in De Pere from June 25 to 29.
