Ten Wisconsin boys and at least three state girls were invited to U.S. Youth Soccer Region II Olympic Development Program holdover camps this month.
Players are selected for the holdover camps, which are used to select the regional ODP teams, based on their performances at the Region II ODP camps. The boys camps were in Overland Park, Kan., while the girls camps were held in DeKalb, Ill.
Bavarian SC's Jack Shaw and North Shore United's Luka Prpa also earned invitations to the U.S. Soccer Under-14 national team ID camp. They are two of 80 players selected for the camp, which is July 31 to Aug. 6 at the Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif.
The state boys selected for holdover camps were: 1994 – Kade Hanson (Verona/Madison 56ers). 1995 – Emilio Lopez (Verona/Madison FC); Christopher Paulino (La Crosse). 1996 – Jaime Collin (Kenosha/United FC); Corey Jolitz (Sussex/Bavarian SC); Bayley Scholz (Appleton/De Pere Select). 1997 – Vuk Latinovich (Milwaukee Kickers). 1998 – Jack Shaw (Bavarian SC); Sam Kornetzke (North Shore United); Luka Prpa (North Shore United).
On the girls side, Waukesha's Aubrey Krahn (Lake Country United) was chosen for the 1995 holdover camp and Hartland's Jordyn Bloomer (Lake Country United) and Danielle Sobelman (FC Milwaukee) were picked for the 1997 camp. There might have been more, but the Region II website doesn't list the holdover camp invitees for all age groups. Bloomer and Sobelman made the final pool for the 1997 Region II ODP team.
Here's a look at how the Wisconsin teams fared at the ODP camps, based on the scores made available: Boys – 1994 (1-1-2), 1995 (2-2-0), 1996 (1-0-1 plus one game), 1997 Older (1-3-0), 1997 Younger (1-2-0), 1998 Older (1-1-1), 1998 Younger (0-3-0). Girls – 1994 (0-3-0), 1995 (1-2-0), 1996 (1-3-0).
The Wisconsin ODP tryouts are July 31 at Voigt Soccer Park in Brookfield and Aug. 7 at Reddan Soccer Park in Verona. For more information about the state program, visit the ODP section of the Wisconsin Youth Soccer Association website.
