Fourteen teams collected the maximum points possible Saturday as Madison United's 19th annual President's Cup indoor soccer tournament started at BreakAway Sports Center in Madison and Keva Sports Center in Middleton.

A record 88 teams hit the turf, all playing at least two group matches – four Women's Open teams and four Men's Open sides played three times, completing pool play. The majority of teams will play their final group games Sunday before the playoffs kick off in all four divisions.

Four Men's Open teams had perfect days: Arsenal United, Croatian Eagles and Croatian Eagles Under-23 all won both of their matches and picked up nine points in each game, the maximum possible under the tournament scoring system, while UIU Alumni ended up 3-0-0 with 27 points in winning the Jackson Pool.

Racine and Bottom Line also went 2-0-0, and Fox in the Box finished 3-0-0 and won the Washington Pool with 25 points.

The Madison Fire, the reigning Men's Open champion, dropped a 1-0 decision to Bottom Line in their opener, but are still in playoff contention after beating the Platteville Monsters 6-1 in their second game Saturday.

Perennial powerhouse Chichitas, whose championship last year was their eighth in nine years, led a group of five teams that claimed maximum points in Women's Open action. Megna Financial, the 2011 runner-up, Madison United, Valley Magic and Peanut Gallery joined Chichitas in recording two victories and 18 points. Bamboozlers, meanwhile, won all three of their games and won the Martha Pool with 26 points.

It was a similar story in the expanded Men's Over-30 field, which saw five teams win twice and collect 18 points. Defending champion Almost Fire, Smoky's Blue Rockets and FC Tipsy had perfect starts, as did two sides in the same pool – Bares United and FC Tunji, who will meet in the Roosevelt Pool finale at 11:30 a.m. at BreakAway.

The Men's Over-38 bracket looks to be wide open, as none of the eight teams managed to win twice Saturday. Four teams, including four-time reigning champion FC Gherkin, went 1-0-1 on the day. Inter Madison, last season's runner-up, went 0-1-1 and needs to beat Eisenhower Pool leader Celtics at 2:30 p.m. Sunday and get some help to advance to the four-team playoffs.

Play starts up at 8 a.m. at both locations Sunday, with the Women's Open and Men's Over-38 finals at 6 p.m., the Men's Over-30 championship at 6:30 p.m. and the Men's Open final wrapping up the tournament at 7 p.m. All four championship matches are at Keva.
