The Milwaukee Bavarians gained an extra home match in National Premier Soccer League play, and made the most of the situation.
UW-Parkside's Cyril Simmons and Marquette's Amilcar Herrera (Milwaukee Riverside) scored as the Bavarians beat the Chicago Fire 2-1 in front of a good crowd in Glendale to remain perfect in Midwest Division play.
The match was scheduled to be played in Bridgeview, Ill., but had to be changed as the Fire's Major League Soccer game was moved from Sunday to Saturday.
Unable to find another venue, the match was switched to Bavarian, though it technically remained a Fire home game. The teams play again in Glendale on June 15.
UW-Milwaukee midfielder Robbie Boyd (Milwaukee Marquette) created the opener for Milwaukee (3-0-0) in the 35th minute with a run Bavarians coach Andreas Davi called "genius."
Boyd beat several defenders down the right flank and rounded the keeper, only to misfire on the finish. But Simmons was there on the left post to score his third goal in as many matches.
Herrera doubled the lead in the 55th with his first of the season, converting off a cross from midfielder Sol Caceres (Glendale Nicolet/UW-Milwaukee) from the left wing.
The Fire (1-2-0), who had only substitute at their disposal, pulled one back in the 70th, but didn't mount much of an attack after that.
Marquette goalkeeper David Check (Mequon Homestead) made one save for the Bavarians, who play at Eau Claire Aris FC on Sunday.
UWM midfielder Riley Weiner (Muskego) came on as a sub for the Bavarians, but had to be replaced two minutes later because of a sprained ankle.
MILWAUKEE BAVARIANS LINEUP: David Check; Luke Davey, Ryan Whitehead, Andrew Krenzien, Collin Monahan; Charlie Hoover (Sol Caceres), James Ashcroft (Kinkade Lo); Sebastian Jansson (Riley Weiner, Mark Ciszewski), Amilcar Herrera (Niklas Boedts), Robbie Boyd; Cyril Simmons (Shay Douglas).
