The Madison 56ers have had few answers for Michele Weissenhofer over the past week.
Weissenhofer had two goals and an assist against the 56ers for the second time in seven days, leading the host Chicago Red Stars to a 4-0 victory in a Women's Premier Soccer League match Wednesday night.
Amanda Cinalli scored the other two goals for the Red Stars (3-1-0), who beat Madison 3-1 in a Midwest Conference North Division game last Wednesday night at Breese Stevens Field.
Weissenhofer, one of four former pro players on Chicago's roster, scored the opening goal after forcing a giveaway and played in a cross headed in by Cinalli as the former Women's Professional Soccer club took a 2-0 halftime lead.
The lead grew to 3-0 in the 47th minute when Weissenhofer curled in a shot from distance, and Cinalli – also a former WPS player – capped the scoring with another header, finishing off a cross from Northwestern defender Leigh Jakes in the 83rd.
The Red Stars hit the road to play FC Milwaukee (4-1-1) at 7 p.m. Thursday in Germantown in a match that likely will have a major impact on the North Division title race. The 56ers (2-3-1) are back in action at 6:30 p.m. Friday against Minnesota Kings FC (2-4-0) at Breese Stevens.
